Oral Cancer Screening in Huntington Beach
Early Detection Matters
Included With Every Comprehensive Exam
Oral cancer is one of the more treatable cancers when it is caught early. The challenge is that it often develops without obvious symptoms in the beginning, which is why screening at your regular dental visit matters. At SeaGate Family Dental in Huntington Beach, we include an oral cancer screening as part of every comprehensive exam.

What Happens During the Exam
What Is an Oral Cancer Screening?
An oral cancer screening is a visual and physical examination of the soft tissues in and around your mouth. We check your lips, gums, tongue, the floor and roof of your mouth, your cheeks, and the back of your throat for any unusual changes in color, texture, or shape that might warrant a closer look.
The exam takes just a few minutes and is completely painless. It is not a diagnosis. If we find something that concerns us, we will discuss next steps with you, which may include monitoring, a referral to a specialist, or a biopsy.
Everyone Benefits
Who Should Be Screened?
Everyone benefits from oral cancer screening, but certain factors increase risk:
Tobacco use in any form
Heavy alcohol consumption
Prolonged sun exposure to the lips
A personal or family history of oral cancer
HPV infection
That said, oral cancer also occurs in people with none of these risk factors. Regular screening is the most reliable way to catch it early regardless of your background.
