Growing with Your Child

Dental Care for Every Stage

Kids' dental needs change as they grow, and we adapt with them. Whether your child is coming in for their first look around or they are a teenager managing a mouth full of permanent teeth, we meet them where they are.

First Visits (Ages 1 to 3)

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends bringing your child in by their first birthday or when their first tooth appears. First visits are low-key — we spend most of the time talking with you about what to expect, how to care for your child's teeth at home, and what normal development looks like.

School-Age Kids (Ages 4 to 12)

This is when routine cleanings and checkups become a real habit. We watch for early signs of crowding, bite issues, and cavities, and we take time to explain what we are doing in a way kids can actually follow. A comfortable appointment at this age goes a long way toward making dental care feel normal rather than scary.

Teens (Ages 13 and Up)

Teenagers are dealing with final permanent teeth, possible orthodontic needs, and habits like sports or diet that can affect their oral health. We talk with them directly about their teeth, not just to their parents, and help them start taking ownership of their own dental care.

What to Expect

What to Expect at Your Child's Appointment

A Relaxed Welcome — We introduce ourselves and the space at your child’s pace, especially for younger kids who may not know what to expect.

A Gentle Exam — We check teeth, gums, bite development, and any areas to keep an eye on. For older kids, this includes X-rays when needed.

Professional Cleaning — We clean and polish your child’s teeth, remove plaque buildup, and apply fluoride treatment.

A Real Conversation — We go over what we found, what is normal, and anything to watch at home. We also answer your child’s questions directly.

One Practice, Every Age

Why Families in Huntington Beach Choose SeaGate

We see patients of all ages at the same practice, which means your family does not have to split between a pediatric office for the kids and an adult practice for the parents. Everyone can be seen at SeaGate Family Dental in Huntington Beach, often on the same day when scheduling allows.

We are also a multi-specialty practice, which means if your child ever needs more than routine care — an extraction, an orthodontic evaluation, or a specialist consult — we can handle most of it in-house rather than sending you somewhere else.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend bringing your child in around their first birthday or when their first tooth comes in, whichever comes first. Early visits help us spot any issues early and give you guidance on caring for your child's teeth at home.

That is completely normal and something we see often. Let us know ahead of time and we will make sure to take things at your child's pace. First visits for anxious kids are mostly about getting comfortable in the space, not about doing a lot of procedures.

For most kids, twice a year works well. If we notice anything developing that needs closer monitoring, we may recommend more frequent visits.

Yes. We treat patients from their first tooth through adulthood. Teens are a little different from younger kids, and we adjust how we communicate and what we focus on accordingly.

Not at every visit. We use X-rays when there is a clinical reason — checking for cavities between teeth, monitoring jaw development, or evaluating an area of concern. We keep radiation exposure minimal and use them only when the information they provide is genuinely useful.

We evaluate bite and alignment as part of routine care. If we think your child could benefit from orthodontic treatment, we will talk through the options with you — including Invisalign, which we offer at SeaGate Family Dental.
